Homemade Chinese Pork Buns are truly just like the ones you swipe off the dim sum trolleys. These buns are a grab-and-go street food in China.

Ingredients of Stuffed Bao Buns 


  • 300 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp dried yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil
  • 140 ml lukewarm water

For the filling

  • 150 g minced pork
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp oyster sauce
  • 1 pinch ground sichuan powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 4 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil
  • 150 g carrotgrated
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 tbsp coriander, chopped

How to make Stuffed Bao Buns 

  1. Mix flour, yeast, sugar and oil in a bowl. Put in water little by little and making smooth dough.
  2. Cover the bowl with a towel and leave to rise in a warm place until doubled in size about 2 hours.


  1. Put pork, soy sauce, oyster sauce, salt and Sichuan pepper in a bowl.
  2. Gradually adding water.
  3. Brief stir fry grated carrot and onion in oil until softened.
  4. Add to the pork along with chopped coriander.


  1. Knead the dough until it goes back to its original size.
  2. Divide it into equal portions. Roll each piece.
  3. Place some filling in the middle of a wrapper then fold into a bao shape.
  4. Leave all the buns to rest for 15 minutes.


  1. Place the buns in steamer. Leave some space between the buns.
  2. Start cooking with cold water over a high heat after 10 min. heat them slow heat for another 15 minutes.
  3. Serve them warm with sauce.
