Avalakki upkari  is one of the common breakfast served in most of the functions in south canara, managalore and udupi region. it is commonly served with rava upma and the combination of upma and upkari is ultimate.

Ingredients of Avalakki Upkari

  • 2 cup Poha 
  • small onion
  • 1 cup coconut
  • 2 tsp Rasam powder
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 2 tsp Jaggery
  • 3 tsp Coconut Oil 
  • 1 tsp Mustard
  • 1 tsp Urad dal
  • 1-2 no Green Chilli
  • few Curry Leaves
  • 1 Red Chilli

How to Make Avalakki Upkari

  • Take salt , jaggery, rasam powder, grated coconut and onion in a bowl.
  • Mix nicely using your hands.
  • Add thin poha .
  • Moisture from onion and coconut should help it to become little soft. Let it sit for 5-10 mins so that it absorbs flavor.
  • After mixing poha and masala. Sprinkled 4-5 drops of water.
  • Lastly prepare a tempering of Mustard , Urad dal, curry leaves and green chilli.
  • Pour it on the poha and mix .
  • Avalakki Upkari is ready to enjoy .
