Chili mushroom recipe | Dry chili mushroom. A popular Indo-Chinese starter recipe or a street snack made with fried mushrooms and a chili-based sauce. It’s almost similar to any Indo Chinese chili recipe, made with button mushrooms. This particular variant of chili is a dry variant without any sauce and is served as a starter or as an aperitif.
Indo Chinese recipes are always easy to prepare with lots of flavor to offer. Chili recipes are one of those subdivisions where a key ingredient is the sautéed and mixed bell pepper and the chili sauce. In this recipe, I used fried mushrooms as a key ingredient in a spicy sauce coated with a crispy mushroom.
The recipe itself is very simple, but a few suggestion, tips for a spicy dry chili mushroom. First of all, I highly recommend using fresh and tender mushrooms for this recipe. It should be moist and juicy even after frying. Second, I didn’t add an ajino moto which adds extra flavor and artificial taste to most Chinese Indo recipes. If you prefer, you can add it. Finally, this recipe is prepared as a dry variant, but you can also make the same variant of sauce. basically you can double the amount of cornstarch with chili sauce for a more gravy version. It should taste ideal when served with fried rice or vegetable noodles.

for frying:

▢ ½ cup all-purpose flour / maida / plain flour
▢ ¼ cup corn flour
▢ ¼ teaspoon Kashmiri chili powder / lal mirch powder
▢ ¼ teaspoon pepper (crushed)
▢ ¼ teaspoon ginger garlic paste
▢ ¼ teaspoon of salt
▢ ½ cup of water
▢ 8 mushroom (halves)
▢ Oil for frying

other ingredients:

▢ 3 teaspoon of oil
▢ 2 clove of garlic (finely chopped)
▢ 1 inch of ginger (finely chopped)
▢ 2 green chilli (slit)
▢ 4 tablespoons new onion (chopped)
▢ ¼ onion (petals)
▢ ¼ bell pepper (cubed)
▢ 2 tablespoons of tomato sauce
▢ 1 teaspoon of chili sauce
▢ 1 tablespoon of vinegar
▢ 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
▢ ¼ teaspoon pepper (crushed)
▢ ¼ teaspoon of sugar
▢ ¼ teaspoon of salt
▢ 1 teaspoon of corn flour
▢ 2 c. Tablespoon of water


  1. Firstly, prepare the sauce by heating 3 teaspoons of oil and sauté 2 cloves of garlic, 1 inch of ginger and 2 green peppers.
  2. Also add 2 tablespoons of spring onion and sauté over high heat.
  3. Additionally, add ¼ onion and ¼ bell pepper. sauté lightly until blisters appear.
  4. Now add 2 tablespoons of tomato sauce, 1 teaspoon of chili sauce, 1 tablespoon of vinegar, 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, ¼ teaspoon of pepper, ¼ teaspoon of sugar and ¼ teaspoon salt coffee.
  5. Sauté over high heat until the sauce thickens.
  6. Pour in the cornmeal water and stir continuously until the sauce thickens and becomes shiny.
  7. Add the fried mushrooms and gently mix the sauce.
  8. Finally, serve the Spicy Mushroom Recipe garnished with a few chopped spring onions with fried rice.
