Fafda is a fried crispy crunchy tasty snack made with besan, laced with carom seeds and black pepper. It is a popular Gujarati vegan snack.

Ingredients of Gujarati Fafda 

  • 1 cup Gram flour 
  • 1/4 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ajwain 
  • 1/4 teaspoon Whole Black Peppercorns , finely ground
  • 1 tablespoon Oil
  • Salt , to taste
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida

How to Make Gujarati Fafda 

  1. take all the dry ingredients together in a large bowl.
  2. Add water gradually to the bowl and mix the ingredients well, and make a soft dough.
  3. Add oil to it and knead it again.
  4. Divide the dough into equal sized portions and make them into small balls.
  5. Roll each of these balls into long and thin strips.
  6. Heat the oil in large deep frying pan and slip each of the long dough strips carefully into the pan.
  7. Deep-fry the fafda dough strips on low flame for 1-2 minutes.
  8. Remove them from the oil once done and serve the fafdas hot.
