It is a popular besan based barfi recipe from the state of gujarat and is prepared especially during the festival season and occasion.

Ingredients of Gujarati Mohanthal 

    • 4 cups Gram flour
    • 2 cups ghee
    • 1/4 cup Milk
    • 1 tablespoon Cardamom Powder
    • 10 Whole Almonds , finely chopped
    • 10 Pistachios , finely chopped
    • 2 cups Sugar

How to Make Gujarati Mohanthal 

  1.  Grease square pan with a minimum of 2 inch rim with ghee.
  2. Add ghee to the gram flour in a bowl and combine well. Stir in the milk to the above coarse crumbs mixture and rub between the palms to combine well.
  3. Heat the sugar and water simmering it until it reaches a two thread consistency, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and keep it warm.
  4. Heat the remaining ghee in a large sauce pan and add the above flour mixture, stirring continuously until golden brown and releases a roasted aroma about 10 minutes.
  5. Gradually add the sugar syrup and keep stirring till the mixture thickens and leaves the sides of the pan.
  6. Turn off heat and transfer the Mohanthal mixture into the greased pan.
  7. Run a knife to cut the Mohanthal into squares and allow it to cool on the tray for more than a couple of hours to set.
  8. Once cooled completely, separate the precut squares and serve.
  9. Store the Gujarati Mohanthal Mithai in airtight containers in the refrigerator.
