Kachumber Salad Recipe – Kachumber or kuchumber salad is a good side dish that pairs well with almost any Indian dish. Basically, the kachumber is an onion-tomato-cucumber salad mixed with Indian spices and herbs.
I always mention the kachumber in most Indian recipes I post, but I have never had a separate post on this Indian salad.
Whenever I make Veg biryani or dal tadka or any other paneer or vegetable based curry to go with rice or rotis, I always make kachumber or some other salad. This way, I include raw vegetables in our meals.
In the old days, when most families lived together, it was normal to have a full meal including rice, chapati, sabzi vegetables, Dal, salad, curd, pickles and chutney. the best part about these meals was that they gave us all the nutrition our body needed. But now most of us stay in nuclear families and we don’t have time to cook such elaborate meals every day.
Right now it is important that we eat raw vegetables and make them an integral part of our diet and this is where salads become such an important part of our meals. You can easily include cucumber, carrot, tomato, onion, lettuce, radish, peppers, blanched beans, boiled corn, boiled peas, moong shoots and sprouts. alfalfa in your salads.
In this kachumber, adding green pepper is optional. Add only if you are used to eating raw green chili peppers, but you can spice up this salad with a little red chili powder if you don’t add chili peppers.

Ingredients

▢ 1 medium onion, chopped
▢ 2 medium tomatoes, chopped
▢ 2 to 3 small cucumbers, chopped
▢ 4 to 5 mint leaves, chopped
▢ ¼ cup cilantro leaves, chopped (cilantro leaves)
▢ ½ or 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
▢ a few pieces of lemon for garnish
▢ ½ teaspoon roasted cumin powder – optional
▢ 1 green chili or ¼ teaspoon red chili powder – optional
▢ black salt or rock salt or regular salt as needed

Instructions

  1. After cutting the vegetables, take them all in a bowl.
  2. Add remaining ingredients
  3. Toss the salad well so that the ingredients are evenly mixed.
  4. Check the seasoning and add more salt or lemon juice, if necessary
  5. Serve the kachumber salad immediately.
