Nippattu is a spicy karnataka or south indian deep fried snack recipe which is a perfect tea time snack. it is typically prepared during festival seasons like, deepavali, ganesh chaturthi and even krishna janmashtami.

Ingredients of Nippattu

  • 1 cup Rice Flour
  • 2 tbsp Maida
  • 1 tbsp Fine Semolina
  • ¼ cup Peanuts Lightly Roasted
  • ¼ cup Fried Gram
  • 2 tbsp Dry Coconut
  • 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1.5 tbsp Hot Oil
  • 2 tbsp Fresh Curry Leaves Finely Chopped
  • ¼ tsp Asafoetida
  • Salt 
  • Water 
  • Peanut Oil to deep-fry

How to Make Nippattu

  1. Add Fried Gram & Lightly Roasted Peanuts in a blender and coarsely grind them.
  2. In a mixing bowl add Rice Flour, Maida,  Chiroti Rava, Red Chilli Powder, Asafoetida, Finely Chopped Fresh Curry Leaves and salt as needed.
  3. Now add the coarsely ground peanuts & fried gram along with Dry Coconut.
  4. Mix everything together and add 1.5 tbsp Hot Oil. The flour mixture should sizzle, this will get flaky nippat.
  5. put oil into the flour and now add water little by little, to bring the dough together.
  6. Make lemon sized balls from the prepared dough.
  7. Heat peanut oil, and Put each ball of dough on a parchment paper as thin as possible.Make 2-3 thattai at a time depending on the size of the pan.
  8. Once the oil is hot, carefully remove the nippat from parchment paper and drop into hot oil carefully.
  9. Cook them on both sides until deep golden brown and when the bubbles in the oil subside considerably.
  10. Remove from oil and drain them on kitchen tissue.
