I love traditional apple cake. It looks so amazingly pretty and is so easy to make. This cake is absolutely delicious when served fresh, warm right out of the oven.

  • 5 apples
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup milk
  • powdered sugar

How to Make Oma’s Apfelkuchen ( Apple Cake)

  1. Preheat oven at 180°C, grease bottom and sides of a pan.
  2. Peel apples.
  3. Thinly slice each quarter several times.
  4. Beat butter, sugar, eggs and lemon juice in a bowl.
  5. Blend flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Stir into sugar mixture with the milk.
  7. Spread batter in the pan.
  8. Arrange apple quarters in the pan.
  9. Bake 1 hour.
  10. Remove the cake from pan after cooling.
  11. Decorate with icing sugar just before serving.
