Rasam is a sour soup or broth like drink made with tamarind, spices, lentils and herbs. Rasam powder is a ground spice mix that is added into the rasam.

Ingredients for Rasam Powder

  • 2 tsp coconut oil
  • 1 cup coriander seeds
  • ¼ cup cumin seeds
  • 2 tbsp methi
  • ½ cup curry leaves
  • 100 gram dried red chilli
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp hing 

INSTRUCTIONS for Rasam Powder

  • Heat coconut oil and saute coriander seeds.
  • Saute on low flame.
  • Heat coconut oil, add cumin seeds and methi.
  • Roast on low flame until the spices turn aromatic.
  • Add curry leaves and roast well.
  • heat coconut oil and saute dried red chilli.
  • Transfer to a large plate and cool completely.
  • Take all the roasted spices to the mixi, add 1 tsp turmeric and 1 tsp hing.
  • Grind to a fine powder.
  • finally, rasam powder is ready.
