The roti jala is a pretty dish that looks like a lace doily due to the way it is made. it is also called malaysian net creepers. Roti Jala literally means “net bread” because of its lacy or net-like appearance. Well made Roti Jala is tender and delicate. It should never be brown or crispy.

Ingredients of Roti Jala

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ tsp turmeric
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 egg (beaten)
  • ¾ cup coconut milk
  • Vegetable oil

How to Make Roti Jala

  1. Put flour and ground turmeric into a bowl. Add salt.
  2. Stir in egg and coconut milk until makes a smooth batter .
  3. Remove any lumps in to the batter.
  4. Brush a oil onto a non-stick pan on medium heat.
  5. Put a little batter into the roti jala cup until about half full.
  6. Move the cup in a circular motion over the pan to form a lacy pattern. Cook until set.
  7. Slide crepe out of pan onto a plate.
  8. When cool enough to handle, fold in both sides of the crepe and roll them.
  9. Serve with your favorite curry.
