It’s perfect for cakes, cupcakes, cookies, pound cake, ice cream, cheesecake, scones, apple pie, and more! Caramel is among one of my very favorite things. Whether eating it as part of a cake or straight from a spoon, it’s hard to restrain myself.

  • PREP TIME: 5 mins
  • COOK TIME: 15 mins
  • TOTAL TIME: 20 mins

Ingredients of Salted Caramel Sauce

  • 1.5 cups granulated white sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter cut into small cubes
  • 1.5 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

How to Make Salted Caramel Sauce

  1. Add sugar and water in a pan.
  2. The sugar will dissolve and the mixture will start boiling.
  3. Dip your pastry brush in some water and keep brushing down the sides of the pan.
  4. This will prevent sugar crystallization.
  5. After around 15 minutes, the sugar will caramelize to a deep brown color.
  6. This happens really quickly, once the mixture reaches 320 F degrees it kind of goes very quickly from there.
  7. As soon as the sugar reaches 350 F degrees, remove the pan from heat and add butter to it.
  8. Add the cream and whisk.
  9. Add vanilla extract and whisk. Remove from heat, stir in the sea salt and whisk.
  10. Let the sauce cool completely and then store in the refrigerator.
  11. The sauce will solidify in the fridge, so whenever you want to use it just take it out of the refrigerator, microwave for few seconds and use them.
