Usli Pohe is healthy version of breakfast. The addition of hing makes it fragrant and the garnish of coconut is simply delish.

Ingredients of Usli Pohe

  • Usal:
  • White peas                                                      2 cups boiled with salt
  • Oil                                                                      1 tbsp.
  • Mustard seeds                                                ¼ tsp.
  • Curry leaves                                                    10-12
  • Green chillies                                                  2 split lengthwise
  • Hing/Asafoetida                                             a pinch
  • Turmeric powder                                           a pinch
  • Grated coconut                                              ¼ cup
  • Salt                                                                    as required
  • Water                                                                2 tbsp.
  • Poha:
  • Thin Poha                                                         2 cups
  • Grated coconut                                              ¼ cup
  • Onion                                                                1 finely chopped
  • Turmeric powder                                           a pinch
  • Red chilly powder                                          ½ tsp.
  • Salt                                                                    as required
  • Sugar                                                                 1 tsp.
  • Garnishing:
  • Onion                                                                1 tbsp. finely chopped
  • Coriander leaves                                            1 tsp. finely chopped
  • Sev                                                                     2 tbsp.

How to Make Usli Pohe

    1. Heat a deep pan on flame. When the oil is hot add the mustard seeds.
    2. After crackle add curry leaves, split green chillies, hing and turmeric powder.
    3. Add the boiled white peas.
    4. Add the grated coconut and mix, add salt.
    5. Add 2 tbsp. of water and cover the pan with the lid and cook for 2 minutes.
    6. After 2 minutes switch off the flame.
    7. In a large bowl, add grated coconut, finely chopped onions, turmeric powder, red chilly powder, salt and sugar.
    8. Add thin poha into the mixture.
    9. Mix poha with the coconut onion mixture nicely.
    10. Poha is ready.
    11. In a plate first add a layer of Poha.
    12. Top it up with a layer of Usal.
    13. Garnish with onions, coriander leaves and sev.
