Usli Pohe is healthy version of breakfast. The addition of hing makes it fragrant and the garnish of coconut is simply delish.
Ingredients of Usli Pohe
- Usal:
- White peas 2 cups boiled with salt
- Oil 1 tbsp.
- Mustard seeds ¼ tsp.
- Curry leaves 10-12
- Green chillies 2 split lengthwise
- Hing/Asafoetida a pinch
- Turmeric powder a pinch
- Grated coconut ¼ cup
- Salt as required
- Water 2 tbsp.
- Poha:
- Thin Poha 2 cups
- Grated coconut ¼ cup
- Onion 1 finely chopped
- Turmeric powder a pinch
- Red chilly powder ½ tsp.
- Salt as required
- Sugar 1 tsp.
- Garnishing:
- Onion 1 tbsp. finely chopped
- Coriander leaves 1 tsp. finely chopped
- Sev 2 tbsp.
How to Make Usli Pohe

- Heat a deep pan on flame. When the oil is hot add the mustard seeds.
- After crackle add curry leaves, split green chillies, hing and turmeric powder.
- Add the boiled white peas.
- Add the grated coconut and mix, add salt.
- Add 2 tbsp. of water and cover the pan with the lid and cook for 2 minutes.
- After 2 minutes switch off the flame.
- In a large bowl, add grated coconut, finely chopped onions, turmeric powder, red chilly powder, salt and sugar.
- Add thin poha into the mixture.
- Mix poha with the coconut onion mixture nicely.
- Poha is ready.
- In a plate first add a layer of Poha.
- Top it up with a layer of Usal.
- Garnish with onions, coriander leaves and sev.
